undefined

I am very thankful that due to the backing of a large corporate sponsor, Lirpa Sloof Ltd, I have the luxury today to give away one coveted spot on the 2012 Antarctica Photo Expedition – a 28-day photo cruise on board a beautiful yacht! The expedition starts in Ushuaia, Argentia, on December 29, 2011. More details here: http://www.sailantarctica.com

How can you participate? Just leave a comment below and state your motivation to join the expedition! Comments must be posted no later than 4 PM Alaska Standard Time!

For those living in Juneau, please join me at 5 PM Alaska Standard Time on the steps of the Capitol, where Governor Sean Parnell has graciously agreed to perform the drawing. We will then head over to the Governor’s mansion for appetizers and wine, so please come and join us. The lucky winner will be notified once the drawing has been certified by Attorney General John Burns.

Thanks again to Lirpa Sloof Ltd for their support, and thank you all who participate. Good luck!

kevin maier - you should take me because i wrote you in for Alaska’s senate race.

Wilson Valentine - For me: 1) Antarctica is on my “Bucket List”; 2) I have lived and worked in Barrow AK and want to see what the other end looks like; 3) It would be a way to see if water really goes down a drain counterclockwise, 4) Penguins are one of my favorite animals; 5) Jimmy Bedford and Mark Kelley haven’t taught me enough about photography so I am looking for a new teacher.

For you: Well, we don’t know each other so you’ll make a new friend.

Romy Hudes - My two favorite things: travel and photography! Also, I never win anything! Take me with you.

Lori Moyer - I did a little “cruise by” Antarctica over Christmas last year and thought I want more! It is such an amazing place. I was tempted when I saw your recruiting post for paying adventurers. It was a nice dream, but free is my current price point. Please Mr. Gov., pull my name! Thanks for the chance Laurent.

Mindy Bickle - Antarctica? Did someone say Antarctica? I winter camp for fun and can pitch in with any unpleasant tasks! Thank you in advance for one of the biggest adventures of my life.

Lori - WAIT!!!! Is this the meanest April Fool’s day trick EVER?!

Wade Willis - Well, first of all I am a Heathen Barbarian. If one is to survive years of isolation (I am aware of last years trip near-death experience) and extreme hunger when / if we are stranded on a delicate piece of ice, you will need a leader in such a situation, and what better than to have true Heathen Barbarian. There will be few options for protein nourishment and tough decisions will have to be made. Second, I taught you everything you know about photography and you need me now more than ever grasshopper. Third, there is only one girl on the boat and she needs to have companionship. Fourth, I know a shortcut.

Mindy - I second that! So mean. I’m crushed.

Anthony - It would give Eli and Florian an opportunity to retrace our voyage 50 years from now.

R. Dog - Are you soooo desperate for comments that you had to come up with the ultimate April Fool’s Day joke??? LAME!

Wilson Valentine - This sounded too good to be true, but we can be good sports and take it in good stride with such a subtle April Fools spoof!

Laurent - Anthony, your comment made me smile. You do make a very compelling case!

Laurent - Wade, you make a strong case and I think you would be an excellent addition to this expedition. Every photography master needs a disciple, and you would be a good candidate, especially if you know a shortcut!

Laurent - Wilson, all of your arguments are very persuasive! Now that Lirpa Sloof has bailed out, I need a new corporate sponsor. If I can sell your idea #3 to company supporting such a scientific experiment, you are in. I will keep you posted!

Laurent - Mindy, thanks for your comment. My apologies if I crushed you. But better be crushed by a subtle April Fools spoof than a huge iceberg, right?

Laurent - Lori, good to hear from you and thanks for participating. My apologies if I tricked you, but you should know me better by now!

Laurent - Romy, thanks for participating. Sorry you didn’t win this time around. You probably would have been a great asset to this expedition.

Laurent - Kevin, Thanks for your vote of confidence. I don’t take it lightly. Now, did you really write me name in? Because in the latest tally from the Division of Elections, my name doesn’t show up. Should I ask for a recount?

Ev Voykin - I would like to nominate Sebastian Schnuelle who has expressed a wish to be able to go. Sebastian is an outstanding Musher who has won the Yukon Quest in 2009, and had many successful races with the Iditarod. He has stated he is retiring after the 2011 Iditarod race.

s.sugunakumar - Lori is spot on.I think Lori should get the sponsorship if you are really going to be dishing out any in the future.
A beatifully designed poster though.
